Oil Painting Workshop with Daniel Corey

You want plein air? This class is it! We have managed to persuade one of the most promising young artists of this region to share his secrets and his passion. Whether you're a beginner, intermediate or even an advanced studio painter, when you’re out with Dan on your own private jaunt, you'll get your fill of spectacular scenery, hands-on advice and, well, plein air painting. His goal for each class can most simply be put as comfort. Comfort with painting outside, out in the elements, and comfort with putting together a solid plan for translating what you see into paint.

Daniel CoreyInspired by light quality, color harmony and abstract shapes, Daniel Corey’s paintings are created from direct observation en plein air. He enjoys the challenge of painting nontraditional views and subjects. He finds the beauty in them, along with what he interprets as, “what makes Maine, Maine”.

Selected to be the 2009 Monhegan Island Artist in Residence, Dan is a traditional painter influenced by Robert Henri and the Ashcan School and rooted in the aesthetic values of the impressionists of the Cape Cod School of Art. Last year, Dan also participated in "Creative Convergence" a plein air painting trip to Mexico, which was covered by American Art Collector Magazine among others. Daniel’s work has been featured in a number of New England galleries and museums. He has worked with Colin Page and he’s been affiliated as an instructor with River Arts in Damariscotta. Enthusiastic and personable, Dan is particularly excited about the small-group concept of Le Vatout’s workshops. We know he will bend over backwards to make sure you "get it".

I would love to ramble here but the sun’s out and my palette is loaded,
filling the house with the great smell of linseed oil.
I'm heading out to paint.
