The Robin Room

Maine roomThe Robin is on the second floor, perching high up under the eaves. It is a writer's dream. Cool and cozy, it is the most private of our rooms and its north-side window makes you feel as if you sit among feathery hemlocks.

A desk, hand-carved by Dominika's father from yellow pine he brought back from the Austrian Alps, offers plenty of space for your laptop and we made sure there's a powerstrip for all those other electronic gizmos you might bring along. The Robin also features a comfortable wing chair with a huge hassock and a reading lamp. A large library of "real" books from our private collection can inspire the writer in anyone and will make the reader feel at home. The Robin has a contemporary queen-sized sleigh bed, a large closet and a private, en-suite bathroom with a shower stall.

ROOM RATE: $150 a night - includes a delicious breakfast and a lot of cheer.

... and its relative

The American Robin (Turdus migratorius) is a migratory songbird of the thrush family. The sexes are similar, but the female tends to be a little duller than the male. It is among the first birds to sing at dawn, and one of the earliest bird species to lay eggs, soon after returning from its winter range. Its nest consists of long coarse grass, twigs, paper, and feathers, smeared with mud and cushioned with soft materials. At Le Vatout, favorite nesting sites are in the old cedars in back and in the climbing hydrangea that clings to the garage.
