Watercolor Workshop - Catinka's Economy Supply List

Brushes: 1/2" flat or "one-stroke", synthetic watercolor; #12 or #14 "Round", synthetic watercolor.

Watercolors: Almost any basic watercolors and plastic palette if using tubes. Inexpensive option is Prang 8 pan set for about $3.50 usually found at Wal-Mart during school season in their stationery or school supplies section. I've tested it. The color is strong, doesn't seem to fade. It’s good for getting your feet wet in painting.

Drawing Materials: Pencils - 2B, 4B, HB, kneaded eraser, white plastic eraser.

catinkaPaper: I prefer 100% cotton, #140 cold press, bright white paper in 22"x30" sheets by Arches, Winsor Newton, but the brand does not matter as long as it is 100% cotton, #140 cold press. It’s expensive, but one sheet can be cut down to 8 pieces and costs less than a pad of student watercolor paper.

Or

Student Watercolor paper, #140 cold press, acid free. It’s available in pads or sheets. Canson Montval is a good student brand.

Or

8.5" x 11" Cardstock (white) by Georgia Pacific. About $5 a package of 150 sheets. I've done lots of practice painting and paintings on this. It is an inexpensive alternative to the student watercolor paper, not as heavy but smooth.

Miscellaneous: Water container, paper towels or cotton rag (T-shirts are great) and a small drawing board, clips or masking tape.
