Watercolor Workshop with Jan Kilburn

Join Jan in some of her favorite spots around Waldoboro, painting river banks, quaint fishing villages, lighthouses and, of course, the romantic garden at Le Vatout. Each morning will start with a demo of technique and then you'll venture out and paint plein air - with instruction interspersed throughout the day. A popular workshop teacher here on Midcoast Maine (and well beyond), Jan Kilburn is also a fine painter who captures the New England coast with its capes and flower gardens beautifully. Her passion for color gives her work a unique quality. Jan's subjects may be common and simple, but when she translates them onto paper, using her soft yet bright colors, she transforms them into something expressive and alive.

catinka Jan spends most of her time painting the seacoast of Maine and New Hampshire. When she's not painting outside - which she prefers - you'll find her at home in her studio painting or teaching watercolor classes. Monhegan Island, where she spends early summers, is one of her favorite painting locales. But Midcoast Maine is full of idyllic sights in the many hidden villages surrounding Le Vatout: Waldoboro and Friendship, Round Pond, Pemaquid and New Harbor. Jan will take you there.

Mostly self taught, Jan Kilburn has studied with Doris Rice, Judy Wagner, Tony VanHasselt and Peter Spataro. Her work is in many collections and she has shown in numerous venues, including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Most importantly, though, Jan’s a patient and gifted instructor with twenty years experience in teaching and conducting workshops. Whether you're a beginner, intermediate or even an advanced painter, we're sure you'll be enriched and stimulated by this workshop, organized by Le Vatout.

I want you to feel the beauty and warmth in these images.
Every now and then everyone needs a peaceful place in which to escape.
That's what I want to help you create, too.
