Pastel Workshop with Pam Cabanas

Let Pam take you on a journey to the gap between perception and reality during this intensive workshop full of tips, essential techniques and spectacular plein air venues. Begin each morning with a discussion of approach to this elusive medium – sessions full of insights, whether you’re a beginner or an accomplished pastel artist. Then out to the field for a long day at the easel! Pam will take you to her favorite coastal painting spots, dramatic vistas she has found tucked into the crags and crannies of her home, the fishing village of Friendship, Maine.

Pam CabanasPam Cabanas has been a working artist all her life. But when she moved to Maine and combined her love for the soft image quality of pastel with the wild beauty of the landscape, magic happened. She loves finding a spot that brings her in close and reflects her emotional connection with her place on the planet. “I love color, texture, atmosphere, uniqueness, wildness, places I cannot penetrate, places that are evocative of mood, emotion, and well, I just have to love the place.”

Soft pastels have been Pam's medium for well over a decade. Earlier in her career she studied hand lithography and painting and taught art and photography at both, the university and secondary levels, before she embarked upon a twenty-year-career as a faux finisher and muralist. Her work has been featured in numerous juried and invitational shows and is part of many collections, public and private. Pam holds a BFA from Alfred University and an MA in Art Education from the University of New Mexico and is a member of the Pastel Painters of Maine. Her plein air workshops are an experience not to be missed. She is a rare find.

I see my paintings as reflections of my awkward
dance through life, love, and Maine.
A soft spoken challenge to the tides, skies and seasons.
